Protecting and Maintenance of Marble, Travertine & Limestone Bathrooms

Lithofin offers a wide range of premium quality special products for protecting, restoring and maintaining natural stone, engineered stone, terrazzo, porcelain, ceramic, quarry tiles and terracotta.

Lithofin’s ranges of (MN) products are specifically developed for protecting, restoring and maintaining marble, limestone, engineered and all other natural stones.

Marble and limestone in bathrooms have been appreciated for many years. Its elegant looks and decreasing manufacturing costs make these materials more and more popular. The following notes about protecting and maintenance are important to preserve and enhance the beauty of your natural stone for many years.

Marble and limestone’s are calcium containing natural materials which react sensitively to acid-containing products like vinegar, sauces, fruit juice, wine, champagne, hand soap in pumps, acid and chlorine based cleaners etc. Pot cleaners and scouring powders can also damage the surface of the stone. In case of rough or honed surfaces this is not always so obvious, polished surfaces will become dull and slightly rough where contact has been made. This is called acid etching.

Water-spots and residues from body lotions, soap and washing powder should be wiped off immediately. Lime deposits on the surface can be removed carefully with a Lithofin MN Power-Clean and a white nylon pad.

Protection (Impregnating)

All surfaces in the bathroom are exposed to moisture. Lithofin MN Stain-Stop will prevent water, oil and grease from entering the stone and grout lines without changing the surface appearance. This product is especially suitable for areas which are prone to staining such as vanities, floors, shower recesses and facilitates cleaning.

To enhance and darken the surface colour structure while protecting the surface against water, oil and grease without leaving surface layers use Lithofin Stain-Stop PLUS.

Please note: Applying a protective treatment will make marble and limestone less sensitive and will facilitate regular maintenance. Surface treatments may only be applied to completely clean and dry surfaces. Always test the product in an inconspicuous area. Impregnating sealers do not prevent acid etching.

For regular cleaning of floors, walls and shower areas we recommend the use of Lithofin MN Easy-Care with a white nylon pad. This product contains the necessary cleaning components and also enhancing agents, which make the surface richer and more attractive with continual use.

Do not use bleaching agents, acid based cleaners or degreasing agents which will damage the stone composite and breakdown sealers. On vanities, windowsills, bench tops and glass we recommend the ready to use, streak free Lithofin MN Easy-Clean spray.

For occasional heavy duty cleaning, dilute Lithofin MN Power-Clean and wash the surface with a white nylon pad.

For additional protection and the freshening of the sheen Lithofin MN Care-Sheen can be used occasionally. For vanities and other smaller areas we recommend Lithofin MN Polish-Cream. Dull areas become less obvious when treated regularly.

Please note: Lithofin MN Easy-Clean can be substituted with Lithofin MN Easy-Care.

Avoid using, resting or placing products on your marble and limestone surfaces that may contain methylated spirits, bleaches, chlorine, acid, citric acid and corrosives. These types of products can cause permanent damage to the surface composition and will break down the sealer. Limit the use of wax or acrylate-based products as they promote a build up of layers.

Incompatible products reduce the longevity of sealed surfaces and will affect the surface composition.

This information should be considered to be informal and non-binding. The products must be used according to local conditions and materials. Instructions must be read carefully and followed closely, Technical Information sheet available. When no previous experience is available, or in case of doubt, tests the product in an inconspicuous area.
